GTROC Wins – Best Club Stand at JAPFEST Silverstone 2018

With a superb Club Stand display of all models of Skylines & GT-Rs, the GTROC was voted Best Club Stand 2018 at this years JAPFEST SILVERSTONE 2018.

JAPFEST is often viewed as the main season opener for car & track events in the UK having moved from its former home at Castle Combe some three years ago. With over 130 car clubs, stunt arena, track time, trader village, magazines & media coverage, parade laps & BDC displays. It is a very full on day over a huge area in & around the famous Silverstone track that many similar shows now aspire too. This is also the first of two events, the second one held later this year at the Donington Race Circuit.

Over the previous years the GTROC stand has grown in numbers from around twelve cars to this years stand with around fifty Skylines & GT-Rs! We would have Stageas too had it not been down to last minute delays for the owners still awaiting parts & fitting times.

It was around 10:00am that we were informed that GTROC had won the best club stand with instructions to attend the parade arena with one car as soon as possible. As most of the stand was away having a well earned breakfast, or a cheeky early look at the trade village. GTROC Member ‘Grimblin Gibbon’ made his way to the parade area with his MY15 NISMO N-Attack B, along with GTROC Chairman; Ross Stewart & GTROC Vice Chairman / National Events Coordinator; Kriss ‘Speed’ Merchant crossing half of Silverstone on foot. The trio met up at the required area but only a stones throw from the Club Stand.

The Headline Sponsor for this years JAPFEST SILVERSTONE was the world renown EBC Brakes, who I’m sure most of you are well aware of. EBC had crafted some lovely awards based on their products with EBC Technical Advisor, Chris Church was the one handing them out for various disciplines on the day. Chris stated during the award ceremony that the quality of cars on the GTROC Stand, as well as the sheer diversity of all the models & marques was a credit to the owners & the Club.

The judges were impressed with many things on the GTROC Stand we were told later who apparently take many things into account. This can be anything from the overall look of a Club Stand, access for the public, facilities offered to those on the stand & how owners react when approached & spoken to about their cars. GTROC Vice Chairman & National Events Coordinator said, “Winning this gracious award was a real team effort from “everyone here today. This was a real team effort from not only the club staff, but also all those that attended our stand today regardless of being a GTROC Member or not”.

GTROC Staff then spent much of the day making sure that all those on the stand were informed & congratulated for their part in the club receiving this award allowing the GTROC to win ‘Best Club Stand’ of the show.

Speaking with various companies & people over the event receiving their congratulations,  the reoccurring note we heard was how nice it was to see that the Club welcomed every model of Skyline & not just the GT-Rs. We explained that this is very much the case & that everyone is treated equally whether there car is run on a budget or its own bank account! The sheer variety of models & marques we had on viewing pleasure was astounding, everything from a humble GTS, right up to the latest MY18 R35 GT-R courtesy of GTROC Partner, NISSAN MOTORLINE with Mr David Day representing.

Other cars on the stand included a :

  • Hakotora.
  • A genuine R33 GT-R 400R.
  • A Do-Luck R32 GTS-T.
  • Nissan G35s & superb G37 Skyline.
  • R34 GT-R R1.
  • Autech R33 GT-R.

On behalf of the GTROC we once more would like to thank & congratulation everyone who was on the stand for this years JAPFEST SILVERSTONE. We look forward to seeing many of you again at the second outing for this event of JAPFEST DONINGTON held on the 30th of June – details are on the clubs forum & Facebook Page.
